Abrar Murder: Prosecution Seeks Death Penalty For 25 Accused

Prosecutors have sought the death for 25 defendants in a trial involving the killing of Abrar Fahad Abrar Fahad, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in the year 2019.

In the closing argument, Mosharraf Hossain Kajal, the chief prosecutor in the case, informed the jury that they were able to prove their case against the accused in all cases and demanded the highest penalty for their part in the criminal act.

Arguments were heard before the Dhaka Temporary Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Jafar Mohammad kamruzzaman.

On September 8th, the court made charges against the of them.

He had then claimed innocence before the judge and court on the 14th of March.

Twenty-two suspects also declared innocence in the case on the 14th of September.

On the 13th of November in 2019 The Detective Branch of Police submitted the chargesheet for 25 individuals for the murder. Of them, 22 suspects are currently in prison and three have fled.

The police report states that according to them investigation, it discovered that 11 persons directly participated in the killing , and fourteen others were also involved in the incident indirectly.

The 25 accused are: Mehedi Hasan Russel, Anik Sarker, Ifti Mosharraf Sakal, Md Mehedi Hasan Robin, Md Meftahul Islam Jeon, Muntassir Alam Jemmy, Khandaker Tabakkharul Islam Tanvir, Md Muzahidur Rahman, Muhtasim Fuad, Md Moniruzzaman Monir, Md Akash Hossain, Hossain Mohammad Toha, Md Mazedul Islam, Shamim Billah, Moaz Abu Huraira, ASM Nazmus Sadat, Istiak Ahammed Munna, Amit Saha, Md Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, SM Mahmud Setu, Morsheduzzaman Jisan, Ehteshamul Rabbi Tanim, Morshed Amatya Islam and Mostaba Rafid. Of them, Jisan, Rafid and Tanim are still to be detained.

On October 7, 2019, an alleged small group Bangladesh Chhatra League BUET group activists and leaders were accused of beating Abrar Fahad in the head due to his post on social media that criticizes the Bangladesh-India agreement regarding sharing the water of the Feni river.

The father of Abrar was the one to file a murder complaint against 19 individuals who were arrested by Chawkbazar police in the capital. Chawkbazar police that same day.
